Tape Library History
A tape library, sometimes called a " tape robot " or "tape jukebox" is a storage device which contains:
  • one or more tape drives,
  • slots to hold tape cartridges,
  • a barcode reader to identify tape cartridges
    and
  • an automated robot for loading tapes.

For large data-storage, Tape Libraries are a low cost data backup solution. Their estimated cost per gigabyte is as low as 10 cents, which is at least 60% less than most hard drives. Due to such huge capacity, tape libraries are primarily used for data backups and restores.
Smaller tape libraries with only one drive are known as autoloaders. The term autoloader is also sometimes used synonymously with stacker, a device in which the media is loaded necessarily in a sequential manner.

DLT and SDLT
DLT (Digital Linear Tape) s a magnetic tape data storage technology developed by DEC in 1984. Quantum purchased the DLT tape drive technology in 1994. A variant of DLT, called Super DLT (SDLT), offering with higher capacity sizes. SDLT tape technology adds a reader system called “optical servo” in order to keep data tracks correctly aligned with read/write heads. All SDLT tape drives support hardware data compression. Then in 2005, a new set of names: DLT-S and DLT-V came out. By 2007, Quantum started focusing on LTO tape drives.

LTO Ultrium
Linear Tape-Open (or LTO) is a magnetic tape data storage technology originally developed in late 1990s. LTO Ultrium re-designed the ½ inch cartridge form facto to make it easier for Robotic tape libraries. There are many generation of the LTO technology With each generation improving speed and capacity.

E-2000 Disk Array

disk storage
A company’s data is one of its most critical assets. Keeping that data stored, accessible and secure has become complex and expensive as companies are faced with massive data growth, increasingly stringent regulatory requirements and distributed environments that can range from across-the-hall to across-the-globe. Overland Storage® recognizes the need for businesses to do more—with less, and offers effortless data management and protection solutions. The SnapServer Expansion E2000 provides flexible expansion for the
  • SnapServer N2000
  • SnapSAN S2000
  • REO® 4600
products. The E2000 Expansion Unit can be populated with up to 12 SAS or SATA drives for a customized mix of price and performance.

Start Small and Grow Big

With Universal SnapServer Expansion, you can start small and grow big. Each E2000 Expansion Unit enables you to add your choice of SAS, or SATA disk drives to SnapServer N2000, SnapSAN S2000 and REO 4600. In addition, these product platforms can support multiple E2000 Expansion Units, giving you flexibility at the time of acquisition to purchase what you need, and effortlessly scale your storage data as your business requirements change—over time.

Customized Flexibility to Meet Your Demanding Requirements

The SnapServer Expansion E2000 provides effortless scalability to meet your growing storage needs. Additionally the E2000 takes advantage of provisioning features in the SnapServer and SnapSAN product lines to ensure the new capacity will be instantly available without disruption to users or applications.
  • Supports SAS or SATA drives for a customized blend of price and performance to fit your specific storage needs
  • Enables administrators to easily add storage to SnapServer as their needs grow
  • Provides point-to-point connectivity to isolate drive failures, thereby maximizing reliability
  • Multiple E2000 Expansion Units can be daisy-chained to the SAS port on the base storage system
In addition, each SnapServer E2000 comes equipped with redundant, hot-swappable power and user serviceable cooling units and a dedicated 3GB SAS channel.

Real-Time Monitoring

Advanced Enclosure Diagnostics continually monitors every component—power supplies, fans, disk drives, controllers—and shows you the status on an easy to access visual display. Each disk drive module containing LEDs, indicating drive status and activity level to give you peace-of-mind that your storage is available and accessible at all times.
